About Me
Throughout my life, I have always been in a process of exploration and discovery. I come from Branford, Connecticut, and began dancing at the age of eight, making my stage debut as a bouncing ball. I found theatre in high school and received my BA from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, with a focus on music and dance. I then immediately moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where I got a job in the kitchen of a pub. A few years of wandering ensued before I found my way back to the stage. I moved to NYC and worked in regional theatres throughout the Eastern states. I performed as a singer/dancer on several cruise lines before relocating to Western Massachusetts.
I am passionate about the creation of new works. As a member of the Northampton Playwrights Lab and the Play Incubation Collective, I enjoy being a part of the development of work from first draft to full production. I am also a regular performer in Happier Valley Comedy's Scripted/ and co-lead workshops in the format, which keeps me nimble. With Adrian Goldman, I co-founded Passport Theatre Company, a collaboration that has led to productions in the U.S. and Helsinki, Finland, inspiring an international dialogue of arts communities.

Moonglow: "...the other woman in Ray’s life, his secretary, Arlene, who has wanted him for a long while, is played by ..Stephanie Carlson. While the two actresses are not alike, they share an intensity that makes them both overly attractive to Argotsinger’s Ray. Watching her take over a man’s conflicted imagination made the play’s two hours fly by. Her slowly revealed past was as interesting as his uneasy present and left doubts about their future."--Peter Bergman, The Eagle Company: “Stephanie Carlson ...sparkles”—Ed Siegel, The Boston Globe “…Carlson makes April a real person, and she does a great job in conveying the unconscious irony of what is surely the best morning-after song every written.” --Jon Lehman, SouthofBoston.com “Stephanie Carlson brings a perfect ditziness to April, Bobby’s flight attendant fling, creating a hilarious character who still somehow seems true.”—David Levy, talkinbroadway.com “Stephanie Carlson is a delight as the empty headed flight attendant who clearly knows she’s dumb but tries to appear interesting all the same.” –R.J. Donovan, OnStage Boston Distracted: “Theater is above all a communal event and an ensemble art. But individual performances can’t help but leap out at the attentive spectator...At New Century...Stephanie Carlson in a hilarious turn as a twitchy OCD paradigm.” --Chris Rohman, Valley Advocate The Odd Couple: “Stephanie Carlson and Cate Damon as the Pigeon Sisters leave the audience in tears from raucous laughter in the date scene… Exceptional production values and excellent casting make this a show worth seeing.”—Eric Johnson, www.inthespotlightinc.org Kiss Me Kate: “Carlson’s wide-eyed demeanor and commanding contralto croon were perfect for the part, and she never erred on the side of upstaging her colleagues, though armed with such songs as “Why Can’t You Behave?” and “Always True to You in My Fashion” and some of the funniest lines in the show, less team-spirited Loises might have been tempted” --Clifton Noble. Jr The New Moon : “For those who like comic turns, they couldn’t ask for better than Stephanie Carlson and David Jachin Kelley as Julie and Alexander…” –Susan L. Serbin, Delaware County Daily Times |
